WELCOME TO ASHFIELD PRIMARY SCHOOL OTLEY

Welcome to Ashfield's Eco Schools Page

  The Stan Kenyon Challenge 2010

The Lungs of the City

This years challenge was all about improving a local green space and we chose to improve our Wildlife Garden. Our project was 'highly commended' and as well as winning £175 we also won the services of a Landscape Architect  to help us put our plans in place.

Here you can see Poppy (Year 2) and Alice (Year 6) collecting our prize from Stan Kenyon and the Deputy Lord Mayor of Leeds. Below is a picture of Maisie (Year 6) and Tim (Year 5) standing beside our presentation. As part of the project and for their own 'learning log' projects, Tim built his own bird box and Maisie built a hedgehog shelter. Can you spot them in the picture?

Well done to all the children at Ashfield for their contributions. Let's look forward to seeing our Wildlife Garden blossom!

  The Green Team

Ashfield's Green Team with our new paper recycle bins. Thankyou very much to the School Council for providing the money to buy a bin for each classroom.

ASHFIELD'S ECO CODE

During Health Week we held a whole school competiton to design the presentation for our Eco Code. The winning design was picked by Mrs Parker. Congratulations to Hannah and Beth M in Year 2 whose winning design is displayed here and soon to be displayed all around the school.

Goodbye Standby

Thank you to all the children at Ashfield who have enthusiastically taken part in the Goodbye Standby campaign. Due to our fantastic efforts to make changes in our school (and hopefully at home) to save energy by turning electronic devices off properly we have been awarded a silver medal by 'Join the Pod'. Congratulations and keep up the 'green' work!

  Solar Pannels

You may have noticed a strange looking device that has appeared in our school entrance hall recently. This is the monitor connected to our brand new solar pannels that lets us know how much energy we are now saving.

On 11th June there will be an official unveiling of the solar pannels. In the meantime, why don't you see what you can find out about the benefits of solar power?

  Walk to School Wednesday

Well done to all the children who made the extra effort to walk to school last Wednesday. An extra 17 children walked that day, which is a fantastic effort. And a huge well done to Miss Carpenter who ran to school all the way from Menston and then home again!
